Date: Wed, 30 Oct 1996 14:14:38 -0600 Organization: University of Illinois at Chicago Lines: 38 Message-ID: <Pine.SUN.3.95.961030135033.27211A-100000@bert.eecs.uic.edu> NNTP-Posting-Host: bert.eecs.uic.edu Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII I have a Conner CFP1080S SCSI HD attached to a BusLogic 948 controller. I tried creating a DOS and FreeBSD partition. Everytime I created the FreeBSD slice I noticed that the whole rest of the HD was not used. Instead some sectors where left over. Also no matter how many more FreeBSD slices I created they always turned out to be of size 0, but still some sectors remained unused. So I kept my original partition went ahead with the installation. Then when I went to commit I hit alt-f2, and noticed some HD geometry errors that read something like, 22008 sectors were used but HD label shows only 21008, 1000 remain unused. Then I would alt-f1 back to the install program and see an error that said the root image was not found on the cdrom. Then if I tried to reinstall, without rebooting, I would get an error that my cdrom was busy, however the cdrom was not spinning. I have tried installing and choosing the option to use the whole HD but these problems persist. I'm assuming the install program get starts preparing the hard drive to recieve data from the cdrom. Then the geometry problems surface and the cdrom stalls. Is a correct assumption. What geometry should I use for my Conner CFP1080S (1030MB) hard drive. If this is not the problem, what is? By the way I know that the CDROM is working because I tried the extract only option under custom and was able extract the whole X windows stuff. I am not sure that any of this was written to the HD but it looked like it was working. I you can help or have suggestions please email me directly or post to this group.
