Your system will be faster and give you fewer headaches. This increases system cost, but IMHO it is worth it. If cost is an issue, you should downgrade your processor before skimping on your disks. You will get the best performance by having multiple SCSI disks configured for striping using the CCD (concatenated disk) driver. A backup system would be a good idea as well. You can get used 2GB tape drives off the net for less than $300.
