Greetings,

I installed bsd/os 2.1, and have installed all the bsd released patches
for 2.1. I am using this particular box as a dedicated news server.
The machine is a P133 with 128Meg EDO RAM. I am using a Adaptec 2940UW
scsi controller and all UW scsi hard drives.

My problem is this. News.daily simply takes forever to run, and now the
"expire" portion of news.daily is not working due to the fact that it
"Can't reserve server". Due to this, I have to manually delete articles,
which of course is not good since that will cause problems with the
history files. I have not modified the news.daily script, and still I
cannot get the program to run under 14 hours. Here is the layout of my
hard drives.:

Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Avail Capacity Mounted on
/dev/sd0a 79423 10988 64463 15% /
/dev/sd0h 397183 238571 138752 63% /usr
/dev/sd0g 1428878 318666 1038768 23% /var
mfs:25 15871 8 15069 0% /tmp
/dev/sd1a 3952264 3526694 227956 94% /var/news
/dev/sd2a 3953201 3238208 517332 86% /var/news/spool/alt
/dev/sd3a 3952264 3531057 223593 94% /var/news/spool/alt/binaries

Perhaps someone has a better way of setting up these spools to give
better performance. Also, what is the best way to manipulate the overview
database entries?

Thanks for any help,

David
