Well, the good reason is AIX implemented DLLS well before any other
Unixes, and they stuck to their home implementation. The basic call is
"load". 

AIX allows you to get load-time dynamic linking (transparent to
caller, only requires some setup at compile / link time) as well as
run-time dynamic linking with the load and unload calls.

Maybe that's because his news server does not download groups related
to AIX ? Mine does not have them either.
