Some comments on this:

-) The adaptec cards are not the main target which is supportet by BSDi.
Read the hardware compatibilty lists and look in the bsdi-users mailinglist
archives to find the reasons. Keyword: Licence policy of Adaptec.
-) Your posting shows up a major missunderstanding of the way SCSI works.
I'm pretty sure, that my systems provided with three SCSI controllers
will show up a better performance.
I really want to see a SCSI bus having 15 working scsi devices on one chain.
By the way: You said "all the spools" Sorry, but what news software do
you want to use ? Or do you think about the ccd(4) driver ?
-) There are supported RAID systems.
-) BSD/OS is a real professional and commercial unix system.
In the unix market it's common FIRST to decide the unix version you want
   to use.
If you choose HP-UX, you'll go and buy a HP system, ... (to be continued)
If you choose BSD/OS, you are strongly advised to buy the hardware
   supported by BSDi.
-) Read the great papers written by Paul Vixie about good hardware for
   BSD/OS systems.
-) If you really think, that a Linux driver will give you the throughput a
3940UW can manage, continue with your dream.
