Impossible. Becoming familiar with Unix is just like a physician not
being familiar with all specializations of medical practice or an
automotive mechanic not being familiar with the fundamental operations of
all automobiles regardless of make and model. Once you dive into any
flavor of Unix, you will never have your head in the sand with respect to
any other flavor of Unix for the most part.

: and against each of the two OSes.

It all depends on what you want. I have a fairly extensive Unix
background (SysV, Xenix, SunOS/Solaris, BSD 4.2) prior to trying
Linux many moons ago. I have found Linux to be a well written OS. In
fact, I have had less of a problem with an ancient version of Linux
(0.99lp15) I was using during my absence from the internet than I have
had with many commercial forms of Unix.

Much of what you want to choose will be why you choose one model of
automobile over another. It has features and ergonomics you prefer.
It's not too different than the Coca-Cola vs. Pepsi argument.

My suggestion is just to observe and read the webpages on both OSes. Both
OSes have significant value in the spectrum of Unix based operating
systems.
