I was convinced for a while too, but the latest ad from Comtrade/Maximus now advertises their VESA Local Bus VIPER S3-805 (i.e., based on the 86C805 S3 chipset) graphics accelerator as doing 52 million WinMarks (2.5), vs. their claim that the VESA Local Bus ATI Ultra Pro in the Gateway 2000 only does 28 million WinMarks (they also claim "2.5 times faster in the LandMark DOS text mode and CAD/CAM - WinTach - test"). There's even a good chance that Amancio Hasty's XS3-0.3 server for 386BSD will support this card out of the box, as opposed to using ATI beta drivers for WinDoze ... Comtrade's phone number is (818) 961-6688 (FAX 818-369-1479) for all your "Put up or shut up" type questions ... (-: -- - Greg Earle Itinerant Sun Consultant earle@elroy.JPL.NASA.GOV
