Keyword: Licence policy of Adaptec. I believe this policy has changed recently, as it seems both the linux and FreBSD guys have access to the driver info they need now. >-) There are supported RAID systems. Indeed. The DTP card would be my first choice and it's got a company supported driver. You can get a pretty good deal on a DTP card, ask about their reseller deal. Most ISPs probably can qualify if you also do consulting. >-) If you really think, that a Linux driver will give you the throughput a > 3940UW can manage, continue with your dream. You might be surprised at the latest linux. There's at least one linux based news server in the FreeNix top 25 now. That said, the admin of that machine knows linux very well. If you're not a tweekoid admin who likes to do a lot of tuning and fiddling, you're probably better off with BSDI. My latest BSDI 2.1 based news machine has been up 100% since I assembled it in March. It's only downtime is from a move to a new location and one time the backup UPS failed on a power outage. Of course it only hovers in the 75-100 range on the FreeNix list. -- John Henders - System Administrator - Mindlink!/Wimsey
