No, 45.45 was a common speed for 5-level teletypes, at least in the U.S. A very worthwhile thread to start up would be a discussion of European teleprinter equipment - I've seen a little of it, and there appears to be quite a bit more variety than in the U.S., where the Teletype Corp of Skokie Illinois had a near monopoly on the market.
