I don't know if this will fly or not, but I had a similar problem. Try
enabling LBA mode on your HD controller. I could never get Boot
Manager(2.1R in my case) to be happy without it.

I don't expect to upgrade to either 2.1.5 or 2.1.6, with 2.2 just around
the corner. When I do upgrade, it will be to the debugged version of
2.2. However, I would expect Boot Manager to change very little in
either 2.1.5 or 2.1.6.
