I have the same problem crop up on my system BSDI 2.01 and INN
1.4unoff4.

If I do a ps -auxw    I see  many instances of a news connection in the
"connect" phase.
And it has the result of eating all the memory.

Unfortunately I don't have a fix.  But I kill off the connect processes
to get me through.
