Fewer problems getting things configured ( :-) ). There is a lot more flexibility in the video timing parameters you use. >2) Do the clock frequencies have to be integer values in the Xconfig? Yes. >3) Sometimes when I run startx I get a randomised screen before I get an >error about the server being killed or dying. Other times there is no >screen fireworks but the same message. Which is nearer to what I want? Which version of the tvga8900 chip are you using? The XFree86 colour server only supports the 8900C chip. The mono server supports the others. If you have an 8900C, have you tried using the Clocks line suggested in README.trident: Clocks 25 28 45 36 57 65 50 40 At very least you should be able to get it to work with the mono server running at 640x480 (with the ModeDB lines in the sample Xconfig). Have you got this far?
