Some software will need to be reinstalled, such as databases. (Atleast, if you only want to run certified database configurations.) But upgrading to a Solaris release typically only requires you to go over your installation procedures (such as jumpstart) once again. It cerainly shouldn't and won't be necessary to recompile all your libraries and obnject files , even those from 3rd party, as the BSD folks insists on being the "clean solution". (Mind you, I don't see that much difference between renumbering system call traps and renaming ABI library entry points.
