Some friendly soul gave me smail-3.1 and it worked for me for years. But in 1993, I got the O'Reilly "BAT" book as an X-mas gift and read the whole holydays about sendmail. In the first week of January 1994 I installed sendmail-8.6.x and within two hours or so, I had all my routing wishes fulfilled. Now my host is a multi domain, multi protocol e-mail server running with sendmail-8.8.4 and I won't miss it. I 've looked of course at other MTA's (zmailer, qmail) but as I know, none of them has such a virtuousity in the rewriting capabilities.
