Could you try XBSD8514? it is at sunvis.rtpnc.epa.gov:/pub/386bsd/incoming.

Besides working it is  much faster server than  XFree86.

Several of  the netters have XBSD8514 working with their ATI Ultra and
they like the speed.

Also, if you have any problems with my server just send me e-mail ;-)
