I am trying to set up a dial-up server using FreeBSD. I have looked at the FAQ and Handbook and followed the steps that were set out but I can't seem to get the setup to work. Here's what has been done so far: The machine is a Cyrix 586 with 4Gig of hardisk space and 24meg of ram I have two modems (to test with) attached to Com1 and Com2 (ttyd0 & ttyd1). I have re-compiled the kernel with PPP support and changed the ttys file to have the following entries: ttyd0 "/usr/sbin/pppd -detach 57600" dialup on insecure ttyd1 "/usr/sbin/pppd -detach 57600" dialup on insecure I have made appropriate changes to the /etc/ppp/options and options.ttyd0, options.ttyd1 files. Here is what happens. If I have PAP turned on, a retry error on ttyd0 and ttyd1 is reported. I turn PAP off and it goes away. If I try to dial in from a Win95 box and all I get is a stream of data without a login prompt of anykind. I have tried to just dial in to the machine by changing the ttys settings to use getty instead of pppd and all I get is garbage. Your help is greatly appreciated. james scheid james@infosouth.com
