It may be true (as stated earlier) that some of the changes (from multiuser to single user, for example) do not work reliably. But in the standard case you will never need it (that means you will reboot instead). If you are going to customize /etc/inittab, you will be able to fix and/or adapt the /etc/*.d/*-stuff as well. Any other points regarding administration following the System V rel 4 semantics?
