I recently installed the FreeBSD 2.1.6 Release and started trying to get a
dialup connection to the net going. I set up user mode PPP according to
the docs, and am having the following problem. I can do DNS lookups and
ping machine on the net ok, however, if I try ftp'ing or telnetting to any
of these machines, I get a connection to it, sometimes get as far as
logging in, but the connection just seems to die. Checking the PPP log
there are lots of errors similar to:
	HDLC errors -> FCS: 1 ADDR: 0 COMD:0 PROTO:0

Thinking this was potentially a problem with the user mode PPP setup, I
tried using slip (with slattach) and had exactly the same problem. For
example,
# ftp ftp.demon.co.uk
Connected to disabuse.demon.co.uk.
220-
And this is as far as it goes.

I have tried with different ISP's and have got no further.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Matt Elton.
