Well, 3.0-current is the current-current if you know what I mean. 2.2 is frozen, except for bugfixes. The kernel part of the Lite/2 integration should be in -current by the end of the weekend (assuming my Christmas activities don't get in the way.) Even though Jeffery Hsu has apparently done an excellent job on the Lite/2 stuff, the code immediately after the initial commits will not be for the faint of heart (probably due to bugs that I introduce :-).) The SMP stuff will likely be going into -current in about the Jan->Mar timeframe (I guess.) At that time, the kernel developers will join the SMP effort supporting the SMP merge with the technology that is agreed to (that kind of SMP that the SMP guys decide on implementing.) I believe that there will be a committed effort by at least a few of the core team members to support a new architecture also. I for one, intend to support that effort (working for the lead person on that team) whole-heartedly. So, if you are supping -current, you ARE getting 3.0-current. It appears at this time that 3.0 will be the version that will show the fruits of the work trying to get the interfaces working very well on one arch (since we had the freedom to do so), and finally support a 2nd architecture using the productized X86 code as a base. Also, in order to best keep up with FreeBSD developments, the mailing lists are a bit more dynamic than the FreeBSD Usenet presence. John dyson@freebsd.org
