     Hello,

I downloaded the "UNIX System Administrators Handbook" scripts from
one of the anonymous ftp sites on the net and tried using the adduser*
script to do just that. After hacking around I hit a brick wall with
the passwd program. The script makes chages to the passwd file and
the group file, creates the users directory with skel stuff, puts an
entry into the phonelist and tries to chown and chgrp their directory
this is where the problem is. I get this error:

chown: unknown user id: <user name>

I guess my question is, how do you add a new user?

Any help appreciated (and shared with others!)

P.S. forgive me for being a novice.
