It always occurs in the same place, so I assume it's not a memory problem. I've double checked all the usual stuff like SCSI termination and IRQs, and there doesn't seem to be a problem, except for the "please disable plug and pray" message from the 3c509 driver (well, at least it's better than the old "erase pencil mark" message). However, I still get the "I'm dead" message when the etherlink card is not in the machine, so I assume that will be a separate problem. The message appears as soon as I select "Options" from the install menu. I'm trying to install Oct 14 SNAP. My config is this: A-bit PN5 166Mhz motherboard Adaptec 2940AU controller (PCI) S3 chipset PCI video card IBM 32160 SCSI disk and a SCSI CDROM Soundblater (ISA) 3c509 Etherlink III ISA card 64 megs ram At first I removed the etherlink card, but the problem remained. Then I replaced it and removed the soundblaster, and the problem remained (however, I haven't tried it with both cards removed). I've double checked all BIOS and PCI settings. I've disabled nearly everything on the motherboard (eg. parallel port, IR serial bus) One strange thing does occur - the IBM drive refuses synchronous negotiation with the Adaptec. I've checked the drive links, and as far as I can tell it should not be refusing negotiation. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
