Actually, all of those files can go pretty much anywhere. I pulled down
the BSD version of tar.gz from Netscape, and unbundled everything into
/usr/X11R6/bin just because that's already in my path. (The nls/ files
of course went into the appropriate directory instead.)

The requirement for the java_30x file is not its location, but that you
must have the CLASSPATH environment variable pointing to it. I set that
variable in my startx script, so it is available to all Xterms when
Xwindow comes up.

Exit Xwindow, set CLASSPATH, and restart Xwindow. Your applets should
now fly happily.
