I have a ATAPI IDE-CDROM which works fine under FBSD 2.1.5. Which release are you using? Some ATAPI CD-ROM drives are not quite 'ATAPI Compliant'. My first 2X cheapo CD-ROM didn't work with FBSD, so I bought a new Sony 8X (cdu311) . This drive works fine without recompiling the kernel. Burton
