One day it worked and the next day it stopped working. This is strange because the last thing I did was to make printed copies of all my configuration files -- thank God. I also installed the TIN newsreader. Could the installation have broken my system ? I could telnet, ftp and run lynx and now it is broken. Well it was working the day before and now PPP kept hanging up on me, dropping the DTR light on my modem and terminating PPP. However as I pick up the phone, I could hear the modem carrier still talking. I set PPP's debug level to Chat Phase LCP. Before I could see every negotiation going on. Now I only see chat script responses showing successfull login but no PPP. As soon as the chat script sends "tia -ppp" (after a successful login into my shell account) all I see are: SIGHUP PPP terminated At that same instant, I noticed the modem dropped the DTR light. It is as if PPP was telling the modem to drop DTR signal. Why ? Then I proceeded to examine the timeout timers (set timeout 1200 300) but ppp on my FreeBSD still hung up on me. --EW Just wanting to learn. PS. I ran dip from Linux and did not have PPP problem.
