I've downloaded the complete 2.2-Beta distribution (sorry) and stored it on a external HD for a local FTP installation. The installation starts copying files but randomly aborts at various points and prompts me to specify a different FTP server. When I try again it continues but the problem reappears. After re-logging in 3 times I get a signal 11 error. It seems like FTP was frequently dropping the connections , or perhaps there's a problem writing the files. However, I did not have this problem with the 2.1.6 Release, but since I need Netatalk and also would like to mount my "old" Linux partition to grab some files... My FTP server is running on a Macintosh (fyi: NetPresenz 4.01, formerly FtpD from Peter Lewis), IP 172.16.1.10, Gw 172.16.1.10, no DNS. I'm trying to install from a Pentium 75 Plato 16 mb RAM, Adaptec 2940 v1.16 - extended translation enabled (131/255/63), NE2000, IP 172.16.1.1, Gw 172.16.1.1, no DNS. It's a local thinwire Ethernet, no other nodes are involved. Since I don't have the problem ftping the appropriate files on the same machine but under a different OS, e.g.: Windows95, I'm pretty sure the problem is not on the FTP server side or with the Network hardware. Again, the same configuration worked fine a few days ago with the 2.1.6 Release. I also tried using different Ethernet cards: 3COM509 and NE2000 compatible, by disabling/enabling in the Kernel boot configuration utility. I also recreated my boot floppy in case some bit was corrupted. I've switched of the machine and let it cool down, just in case the SIMMS or whatever was dropping some bits, but still no luck. Now I'm starting to wonder if there is something wrong with TCP/IP on the boot floppy or perhaps with the Adaptec 2940 disk driver. Just one suggestion: why not changing the package files and Index to MSDOS file conventions - it would probably save a lot of hassles (not only for me!).
