Saw the above line a few times in your log output. Are you running PPP with either 'pap' or 'chap' authentication? If you are, then you definitely will need to have a properly set /etc/ppp/ppp.secret ie with username and authentication password (which is not necessarily the same as the login password) as well as name of the system you are trying to log into. If you're not using pap or chap, then "er, dunno".
