It : is ashamed that one has to comb the source code for such messages : before deploying the binaries on a customer's site. Does anyone here remember GOD IS DEAD? It seems, as I heard this story, that an old OS (Multics? I forget who told me this one) ran on a machine with a bus signal called Go On Demand. Some smart ass put a message in the kernel to warn people of the case in which Go On Demand Internal Signal Doth Excrete Ambiguous Data. Needless to say, it showed up at a customer site. : I don't know that it is snobbery, as much as appropriate language : for given situations. In the real working world, there are situations : where such language is not appropriate, and alot of people don't want : to be on the forefront of bringing obsenity into their working : places. Some places are very liberal about language, but many are : not. It is really really easy to be NOT obscene. No one said it was hard. The question is: is it acceptable to believe that the sort of person who would be spelunking around in the kernel sources would have a laid-back sense of humor?
