I've talked to Malcolm Muir from Demon about this - he suggests that the demon (server) side shouldn't initiate handshaking (hence the necessity for the "set openmode active" bit). I think this should be wrong, but after looking at some of the ppp rfcs, I can't find a conclusive answer :( Maybe it's worth having a timeout in iijppp that either suggests that nobody has started negotiations or that starts negotiations despite openmode ?
