Sender: news@undergrad.math.uwaterloo.ca (news spool owner) Message-ID: <E3F5Du.B4s@undergrad.math.uwaterloo.ca> Date: Fri, 3 Jan 1997 06:15:29 GMT Nntp-Posting-Host: watdragon.uwaterloo.ca Organization: University of Waterloo Lines: 22 Xref: euryale.cc.adfa.oz.au comp.unix.bsd.freebsd.misc:33471 I have an IBM thinkpad 755CD with FreeBSD 2.1.5 on it, and I'm having trouble getting X working. I've got the XFree86 3.2 binaries for FreeBSD-2.1.5, but I can't seem to figure out a configuration that doesn't crash the system when the X server starts. I've checked out the "XFree86 3.1 and WD90C24 Notebook Video Chipset mini-HOWTO" at http://www.castle.net/X-notebook without success (it seems to talk about Linux rather than FreeBSD). SuperProbe claims that this is a Super-VGA screen, with the WD/Paradise 90C24 chipset, 1MB video memory, and a generic 8-bit pseudo-color DAC (with 6-bit wide lookup tables). Does anyone have a working XF86config for this or a similar setup, or suggestions on how to get X working on this machine in some other way? Thanks very much -- replies by mail would be much appreciated, and I will summarize to the newsgroup. John Sellens jmsellens@watdragon.uwaterloo.ca
