Recently the 2.1.x-branch had the neccessary code added in libc to run the JDK. I don' know when exactly it was introduced, but 2.1.5 doesn't work and it should on 2.1.6[.1], which is a formal release and solid. To run the JDK in such an environment, create a symbolic link in /usr/lib "ln -s libc.so.2.2 libc.so.3.0". Let me know if you need more help.
