Here is a summary: ======================================================================= From: "James Jegers" <uunet!miller.cs.uwm.edu!jimj> I could be mistaken but any RLL should work with unix. since they are standard(generally) so as long as you get a working/decent one, it should work. ======================================================================= From: "Robert Knier " <uunet!miller.cs.uwm.edu!knier> I have 2 RLL drives (a 68Mb and a 65Mb) and one SCSI (LXT340SY). The controller for the RLL drives is an adaptec 2372a controller. More importantly to get 386BSD to recognize both RLL drives, I made a patch for the wd.c code to read the CMOS settings at startup. If you would like a copy of the patch, let me know. ======================================================================= From: uunet!du9ds3.fb9dv.uni-duisburg.de!veit (Holger Veit) Normally, all standard RLL controllers should work ... :-). Before I went to use a larger IDE drive, I successfully used a DTC 5287 controller with a ST4144R disk. Also the DTC7287 (1:1 instead of 1:2) is known to work. ======================================================================= From: uunet!optigfx.com!mrm (Mike Murphy) 386bsd works fine with a Seagate ST22R controller. The drives I've used are: 1) Seagate ST4096 MFM drive formatted RLL at 1024x9x26. 2) Seagate ST1106 RLL drive formatted RLL at (I forget the numbers, and the drives are home sitting on a shelf and not on a machine because I replaced them with 2 of the drives just below :-) 3) Maxtor XT1140 formatted RLL at 1024x15x26. These work just fine. It can be a pain using RLL if your BIOS doesn't support it. If you have problems, send E-mail. ======================================================================= From: uunet!damon.ccs.northeastern.edu!jtsilla (James Tsillas) I've had success with a DTC 2729. ======================================================================= Thanks for the info; I'll probably pick up a Seagate controller from a local place in the near future. -- Gary Heston SCI Systems, Inc. gary@sci34hub.sci.com site admin The Chairman of the Board and the CFO speak for SCI.
