Date: 08 Jan 1997 08:04:50 GMT Organization: Nethelp Consulting, Trondheim, Norway Lines: 28 Message-ID: <5avkf2$hb7@verdi.nethelp.no> NNTP-Posting-Host: aun.uninett.no Xref: euryale.cc.adfa.oz.au comp.unix.bsd.freebsd.misc:33820 We are looking for multiport 100BaseTX cards to be used with the if_de.c driver and FreeBSD (2.2-960323-SNAP, if_de.c,v 1.44 1996/03/23 currently - could be upgraded if necessary). We have a machine (P133) which is used for network monitoring. Right now it has 6 10BaseT ports (SMC 2-port + Znyx 4-port), and works very well. I don't think it has enough memory bandwidth & processor capacity for 6 full 100BaseTX ports, but it would be very useful to be able to upgrade even a couple of the ports to 100 Mbps. I've found the following multiport 100BaseTX cards based on the 21140 chip: SMC 2-port http://www.smc.com/network/lan/fastdpci.html (2 ints) Znyx 2-port http://www.znyx.com/zx348.htm (1 int) 4-port http://www.znyx.com/zx346.htm (1 int) Cogent 4-port http://www.cogent.com/products/em440tx.html (1 int) 4-port http://www.cogent.com/products/em400tx.html (1 int) Does anybody know of other cards based on the 21140 family of chips? Does anybody know if any of these cards work with the if_de.c driver? I assume that using 1 interrupt for multiple ports has some cost. Is this cost high enough at 100 Mbps that the SMC approach with one interrupt per port would be strongly recommended? Steinar Haug, Nethelp consulting, sthaug@nethelp.no
