Therein lies the rub.
Boot with:
1:wd(2,a)/kernel
To make this the default, build and install new bootblocks, after
modifying /sys/i386/boot/biosboot/Makefile (the HD_BIAS parameter).
To finally install them on the disk, you need
disklabel -B wd2
