First, not to start a wm war, but fvwm does have this ability.

Second.  I had the same problem when running X11R6 (xdaniver) under
NetBSD-Amiga 1.1. The problem isn't getting out of the window manager,
the window manager dies off just fine, the problem is that X never
dies, it drops you to the hash screen and stays there, giving it the
CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE would drop me back to the text console.

I do not have this problem under NetBSD 1.2 and X11R6.1.
