I'm getting ready to run BSDI's BSD/386 system and in the process of
filling out some POs to "spiff up" a donated AT&T STarServer E (EISA
33Mhz '486) to run it. I'm tossing the supplied 256K VGA card &
monitor over to an ordinary PC in our lab and am after a good cheap
windows accelerator card that 0.9.3 BSD/386 will like. I have the
latest BSDI Q&A which mentioned supported cards, but after a talk with
one of the tech guys at BSDI I got the impression that X11 performance
varies significanty between the different acceralated cards they have
written drivers for. They of course fall into two catageories: IBM
8514 derivitives and those based on the S3 chip. The cheapest card
I saw in PC magazine advertised was the Paradise windows accerlateor SVGA
card with 1MB of memory for $159 but could not confirm that this was
the same board that was mentioned in the BSDI Q&A. The tech guy at
BSDI recommended the ATI ULTRA+ but this pushes $300.

Anyone who has experience with this matter please speak up! Would
apreciate any advice and ideas on cheap places that will accept University
PO's.

Thanks!
