Did you try mp3play.tar.gz? It is pack(l3dec/l3enc, waveplay, mp3play
script,
etc.) under Linux, but it could be recompilate for FreeBSD (/dev/audio
is
directly used as output).

My friend who is interested in Linux, tested it on P60:
11kHz, mono, 16kbit/s ... 14% CPU
22kHz, stereo, 56kbit/s ... 56% CPU
44kHz, stereo,112kbit/s ... cca 112% :-)

Original l3dec/l3enc is on ftp.nhg.de ( or .com?). It is link from
"MPEG Pointers and Resources".
mp3play.tar.gz is on ftp.vse.cz/pub/386-unix/linux/apps/sound/players/
for example, but it can be found by any ftp-search server.
