I am going to be upgrading my i486DX/33 EISA/VLB box to an Am5x86/133/P75 which will be crowned the gateway to the local ISP/mail server. Two workstations will be hanging off of the gateway machine via a 10BT LAN (upgradable to 100BTX by swapping out the hub) both Pentium class ISA/PCI boxes with AMD K5/133s. One having several OSes on it for my tinkering enjoyment and the other one running vile MS-DOS 6.22/WFW 3.11. [1] I have never been too fond of Intel parts since the '94 'FDIV-gate' scandal a couple of years ago. :) Since I am essentially running AMD CPU's across the board, I would be interested in any caveats about them anyone in the FreeBSD community has found. I know they won't execute Pentium (Pro) instructions. -- 1. I know I am asking for it, but the WFW user is my present significant other/roomate and she is a Windows advocate. Or rather, she's a graphics nut, but at least she hates '95 so many there is some hope. [2] 2. It could be worse, her machine of choice is the Amiga, but a good LART to use on her would be to install the Amiga port of Net/Open BSD if she somehow obtained an Amiga and put it on my LAN. ;) /* | Spam violation - e-mail dumped... ** Internet: jca@accessnv.com | Don't blame me, I didn't vote for Clinton. ** jca@anv.net | Intel is the word for 'errata.' */
