According to the original schedule, I should have been abroad for three weeks from the beginning of February, but it suddenly changed to this Saturday. The problem is, that by the time I leave, I need to get PPP dialup running on our FreeBSD (2.1.0) system. Part of it is running. But I reached a point where I simply got stuck and couldn't get any further for the last two days (* below). Maybe a simple oversight somewhere? A pointer to some setup documentation on the web or the like would be VERY much appreciated. (Checked Essential System Administration and The Complete FreeBSD in addition to the FAQ and handbook, but can't get it to run.) Situation: - FreeBSD 2.1.0 (expected to be upgraded later) - internet connection is ppp dialup with dynamic IP Should have: - console login - working, no problem - remote login over network card - not yet done, but expect to work this one out - iijppp on demand - working - modem dialup with normal login (non-ppp) - working *- modem dialup with ppp login *- This is the problem. I followed the iijppp docs and logging in with a username of ppp I get all the funny characters, but trying a login from a Win95 machine over modem, tells me, that no common protocol could be found. PPP login to an ISP works fine, though. - modem dialup with ppp and telnet login - no idea yet, but this can via ppp or network card with same userID wait - IP masquerading - if ppp is working, this can wait Any pointers most welcome (the sooner the better, I'm leaving Saturday 5 am). Thanks, Kurt ... Kurt@pinboard.com * 21 Jan 97 11:58:41 (JST) * http://www.pinboard.com
