A 120 Mb isn't going to cut it for that. 120 Mb would be fine for a
specialized application such as a router, mail server or firewall.

The bottom line with any Unix based OS with respect to disk space is be
as generous as possible.

To do a full install you're going to need a hard drive > 1 Gb (just for
the FreeBSD partition) if you're going to do any sort of development
plus any sort of server configuration. What gulps down much of the
space are the sources. If you ever intend to do a 'make world' you are
going to need the space. Since you are running a newsreader, unless you
are going to be an NNTP client, you are going to need space for your
newsgroups as well. Add another Gb on top of that for a small feed of a
few hundred groups. Usenet easily gets over a Gb of traffic daily,
especially with the spam.

It use to be that I could get by with a full install of an older Linux
with half a my 636 Mb SCSI, but no more. In the near future, I will be
either buying a Fujitsu 2 Gb F/W SCSI 2 or a Quantum 3.2 Mb Ultra (Fast 20)
SCSI drive for my system just for FreeBSD.

Considering the price of > 1 Gb drives has gone down and the low end
capacity for SCSI hard drives is 2 Gb at about the $375 price range,
there is no reason, IMO that you can't upgrade your storage system
unless you are a struggling student on a tight budget.
