Absolutely. After all, typical *slow* drives have read and write
performance only twice that of maximum possible out of the network.
Disks are a very important factor. 

I guess we spell `clueless' rather differently.

Ah, I see. Believing lmbench results instead of you makes one an
`idiot.' Watching my 486/100 blow my Sparcstation IPX out of the
water makes me an `idiot.'

Sorry for being an `idiot' and dealing with the real world instead
of your fantasies.

In other words, `I've never actually tested this stuff, and I have
no intention to. I'm just going to keep insulting someone who has
done these tests by calling him a clueless idiot until the rest of
the world realises how smart I am.'

Ok. You win. Never mind lmbench, bonnie and daily use. You're right,
the IPX is faster than a 486/100, rather than a bit slower than a
486/66. It must be that my clocks and benchmarks run differently
between home and the office.
