After reading the rest of this thread, I'm curious if tried your IDE CDROM as a slave drive (I remember seeing something to the effect that an IDE CDROM needs to be a slave drive, but maybe that was for 2.1.5 [?]). Initially, I started with FBSD 2.1.5 and had a similar problem of FBSD not recognizing my CDROM. I had an old cheap 2X CDROM that even Micro$oft Win95 wouldn't recognize. My solution was to purchase a new 8X Sony CDU311 IDE CDROM drive for about $105.00 USD (back in Oct.). When I was attemping to get FBSD to load I ended up talking to Jorden Hubbard. He explained that not all ATAPI compliant drives are 100% ATAPI compliant (my old 2X claimed to be 100% ATAPI compliant, but it wasn't). Remember, it is impossible for the FBSD team to recreate or verify that FBSD works on ALL 80*86 systems. After I replaced the CDROM drive, I've been using FBSD ever since. FYI: I wouldn't got back to a Micro$oft OS for ALL the printed currency in the world!!! -- Burton Sampley Email: bsampley@best.com | home page: http://www.best.com/~bsampley
