Hmmm. Don't know why my previous post came up blank.

I got no answers for this question in a previous post. So here goes again.

I did what I thought was an FTP reinstall of FreeBSD 2.1.6-Release right
over the top of my other version of FreeBSD 2.1.6-Release. Why? I was
trying to fix some terminal emualtion problems that I'm still having.

After the latest install, I get a "FreeBSD ?.?.?" upon login. Why? Did
I not get the 2.1.6-Release? I've doublechecked the Release version in
the "sysinstall" menu and it says "2.1.6-Release".

The most obvious problem I'm having is the failure of FreeBSD to give me
the "tcsh" shell. I added the path to "tcsh" in "etc/shells" and I get
the "tcsh" shell now but my cursor jumps to the right of the screen each
time I delete a letter at the command line. Even curioser, the letter on
the command line *is* deleted.

(Note: The cursor problem seems to occur only when I'm at the console.
I've logged in from a dial-up connection now and I don't have that same
problem.)

I have serious emulation problems folks. When I go into a program like
Pico, the highlighted menus are full of characters from the extended
character set. At home from a dialup connection, I get control characters
(^G %X%k%W) for the "Get Help" menu in "Pico", for ex. I'm trying to read
up on the getty stuff but I think I'm out of my league. I assume the
terminal is displaying low bit characters when it should be displaying
high bit or vice-versa or something.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I have a Gateway G6-200 box, ATI Mach 64 card, and a 17" Vivitron monitor.

Thanks.
