Several people sent answers to this problem, immediatly after I figured
out how to solve it. The is definitly a question/answer that should be
int the FAQ.
The answer is (don't laugh): You cannot boot with a floppy in the drive,
even if the drive door is open. Apparently
just having a floppy in there is enough to
cause timing problems, and the system just
ignores the floppies thereafter.
Simple fix, but completely crippling if you don't know the answer.
