Hi !
I want to share printers and plotters over a TCP/IP ethernet network. The
printers and plotters are connected to a Unix workstation under the LP print
service. These devices should be accessed over the network by PCs running
Windows 3.11. The connection between the PCs an the Unix workstation is
already established. They can exchange files, but can't share printers. The
devices are connected via serial (tty) ports.
1.
Does sombody know any solutions to this problem?
2.
I have serveral printer clients that can be installed on the PCs in order to
access the remote printers. But these clients need the printers to be
installed on the Unix machine unter LPR and not LP. Does sombody know any
printer clients that work with the LP service?
3.
I'm not very familiar with running printers under LP, especially not with the
'printcap' file, which has to be edited manually in order to use the printers.
Can somebody explain me the most important basics concerning this file?
4.
How do I install a new printer / plotter to a Unix system? Do I need special
device drivers and where / how have I to install them?
