Thank you very much for the information.

On ftp.macbsd.com I found ADBTEST.160 (from September 30 1996) and
GENERIC-9 (from November 6 1996). Other than the vanilla 1.2 kernel,
both hang my Classic II instantly, i.e. even before the screen goes
blank.

Does the FPU matter? It is, I think, quite rare for Classic IIs to have
an FPU. Perhaps the kernel won't work on a Classic II *with* FPU?

Could anyone point me to a kernel that does definitely work on her/his
Classic II? I'd even appreciate getting one per E-Mail, but in this case
please contact me beforehand so I don't have to pull 7,3 MB over my
modem tomorrow. :-)
