If you don't post the errors -- how should people help you? Actually, I made a point of including the errors in my original message to the newsgroup which I had a reply or two for. The suggestions in that were not successful. I managed to do it by creating a 2.2 boot install disk from one of my other systems and partitioning from that. People have been saying the 2.2 sysinstall works better (or just flatly *works*) for partitioning and labelling than the 2.1x versions. Apparently they were right. :) BTW, thanks to all who responded that I didn't get a chance to reply to! Mike.
