Do all of the drives have synchronous transfer negotiation enabled 
(check the BIOS).  I have seen problems with some SCSI drives that 
wouldn't play together because of FW problems having to do with 
sychronous transfers.  You could disable it for all of the drives and 
see if it makes any difference.  Unfortunately it will kill your 
performance too but you could try it out....
