This just doesn't compare to WinWord. I was about to mention Lyx which looks like a good start, but even that one doesn't compare. There is also StarOffice which is said to be a good and complete office suite. It's commercial on other OSes but free for Linux. The drawback (and also the reason why I have not tried it) is that it requires Motif 2.0, which is available for Linux, but not for free. It's really a pity that there is in fact no good word processor under GPL. If there had been one by the time Winword came out, maybe Micro$oft would not be dominating the market the way they do these days. I remember reading a GNU bulletin by Richard Stallman about seven years ago. In his whishlist for new projects, the top item was a WYSIWYG word processing system a la Word. Apparently, nobody volunteered for it ever since. I guess it is more challenging for a hacker to write a new OS :-(. Rob
