Macintosh isn't _that_ special-

PC's take PC ISA bus cards, which are available in async speeds through
230Kbs, and can also accept _sync_ serial cards at similar speeds.

There're also inexpensive internal cards ($170-$270) which can easily
handle the 128Kbps raw ISDN bandwidth, and support compression.
