Date: 6 Feb 1997 10:29:09 -0500 Organization: Raytheon Company Lines: 36 Message-ID: <5dctc5$m3m@swlrd2.msd.ray.com> NNTP-Posting-Host: swlrd2.msd.ray.com Xref: euryale.cc.adfa.oz.au comp.unix.bsd.freebsd.misc:35093 I got 3 responses to my query about problems booting FreeBSD 2.1-RELEASE from a floppy after installing a card containing a SIIG enhaced disk BIOS. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- From wongk@k7.datadesign.com Tue Feb 4 12:04:52 1997 Can you ID the chipset on the SIIG card? there are some problem with the UMC?? chip that are broken. Ken From s_koyin@eduserv.unimelb.edu.au Wed Feb 5 04:53:15 1997 i suspect a corrupted floppy. re-make the floppy (using RAWRITE) from the original boot disk image. did you do a warm boot (Ctrl-Alt-Del) or cold (reset button or power-up)? i've noticed DOS 6+ doing funny things to boot sectors, and decreasing BIOS' idea of available memory from 640k to 638k or less. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- But, the real answer is that it just does not work with versions of FreeBSD prior to 2.1.5, the 2.1.5 and 2.1.6 floppies boot just fine! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- From leclaire@venus.net Tue Feb 4 11:34:13 1997 I had similar problems with 2.1.0, but the problem disappeared with 2.1.5. You might want to try a newer release. Andre -- William A.
